The history of Qualico dates back to its founders, Dr. David Friesen and his wife, Katherine Friesen. Together, the couple had a dream to build homes and create communities. They ultimately built their first houses in River Heights in 1950, founding their company as Quality Homes.
Fast forward to the present, and Qualico has become a fully integrated real estate development company. It is one of the largest real estate developers in Western Canada with operations in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg. It also has a presence in the United States based out of Austin, Texas.
The company has created a half-century tradition of building excellence, market leadership and distinctive projects. On an annual basis, roughly 2,000 families choose to do business with Qualico on single-family homes, apartments and ground-oriented condominiums.

StreetSide Development’s focus is on multifamily homes. Its projects include Bluestem Condominiums in Sage Creek, District Condos in the downtown Exchange District, The Mix and Bridgwater Forest Condominiums Apartment-Style in south Winnipeg’s Bridgwater Forest neighborhood, Mode Tache in historic St. Boniface, and North Town Condos in Bridgwater Forest. It is also venturing into the single-family home sector in South East Winnipeg’s Royalwood.
Bluestem Condominiums is StreetSide’s first collection of townhomes in the Sage Creek community. It features 75 three-story townhomes ranging in size from 1,026 to 1,552 square feet. Each is self-contained with two private entries, second-floor patio balconies, attached garages, large windows and versatile layouts. They are located within walking distance to the new Village Centre and future schools.
District Condominiums includes almost an entire city block of buildings, totaling seven, in the East Exchange District. The condos feature original exposed brick, new double-paned windows, 10- to 14-foot ceilings, storage lockers and 100-year-old timber beams in most of the units.
The Mix is a collection of premium apartment-style condos in the Forest neighborhood. This four-story building will feature five two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging in size from 1,016 to 1,856 square feet. The Mix will also feature underground parking, private balconies and contemporary finishings.
Bridgwater Forest Condominiums is StreetSide’s first collection of apartment-style condominium residences. It includes one- and two-bedroom condos ranging in size from 760 to 1,230 square feet. Amenities in the building include a fitness studio and lounge with billiards and underground parking.
The Givenchy at Mode Tache is part of StreetSide’s Signature Collection, StreetSide. It is a development of luxury penthouse-style condominiums in Saint Boniface, featuring river and park views. The spacious suites include floor-to-ceiling windows and large private balconies.
NorthTown Condominiums is StreetSide’s latest collection of townhouses in Bridgwater Forest. The project features 31 distinctive condominium townhomes in two buildings. It is a collection of three-storey urban-contemporary townhomes with diverse and functional floor plan designs.
As for its entry into single-family homes, Homes By StreetSide will be another part of the company’s Signature Collection. This limited collection of bungalow and two-story homes in Royalwood will feature functional floor plans, open layouts and designer-selected finishes and upgrades.
