Caruso Home Builders

Caruso Home Builders is breaking into the luxury home market in New York.

By Kat Zeman, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

His career in new home construction started straight out of high school. Working for a tile contractor, Anthony Caruso learned the ins-and-outs of his trade. “I familiarized myself with the industry and I met a lot of subcontractors and land developers,” he says.

After a few years of gaining on-the-job experience, Caruso realized his calling in life. Seeing a satisfied reaction in the faces of homeowners when he completed a project gave him a sense of self. Plus, no two jobs were ever the same. “I love seeing every phase of development and knowing that people are living in something that we poured our love and time into,” Caruso says.

Ten years ago, Caruso decided it was time to branch out on his own and secured a location for his first project. He built and sold his first home at the age of 21. Caruso Home Builders, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, specializes in custom and semi-custom homes in upstate New York.

While Caruso is primarily self-taught, he prides himself on staying up to date with industry trends, techniques and products. He believes that with each home comes an opportunity to learn. A dedicated craftsman, Caruso won several awards in 2016, his first year of entry to the Saratoga Showcase of Homes and the Capital Region Builders and Remodelers Associates Best in Building Awards.CarusoHomeBOX1

A Growing Market

Caruso Home Builders is currently building in Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Greenfield, Stillwater, Niskayuna, Queensbury and surrounding areas. “Saratoga County is one of the fastest growing areas in New York,” Caruso says. The company is presently wrapping up an eight-lot subdivision project in Clifton Park, N.Y. The homes are craftsmen style colonials and ranch homes that range in price between $400,000 and $500,000. The company broke ground on the first home in October 2016.

“We range from classic homes to executive homes and luxury homes,” Caruso says. “But we’re really starting to break into the luxury homes market. This fall, we broke ground on a luxury subdivision in the city of Saratoga Springs. This is a big step for us.” Caruso Home Builders is handling a portion of phase two in the Oak Ridge subdivision, handling the development and building side of the ground-up construction project.

“I’m excited to be a part of the subdivision because we can get creative with our homes and we have the budget behind us to do so,” Caruso says. “These styles of homes have always interested me.” The homes, which will start around $750,000, are located in an aesthetic neighborhood with beautifully groomed landscaping, scenic sidewalks, gazebo and a water fountain.

Caruso Home Builders is also working on small housing projects in Halfmoon and Niskayuna, N.Y.  Aside from building custom homes, the company offers more than a dozen floor plans for semi-custom homes. But if clients want adjustments, Caruso will make it happen. Today, the company builds between 10 to 20 homes per year. Eventually, it would like to see that number to increase to 20 to 30 but not at all costs. “I’m not as interested in being a high volume builder,” Caruso says. “I like to get creative and build homes with more style, characteristics and detail.”
