Riveting Revivals: Highlight Homes tackles rebuild projects in Atlanta.

By Kat Zeman, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

Anthony Pourhassan doesn’t have a job. The founder of Atlanta-based Highlight Homes makes money by doing what he loves. “It’s not a job,” he insists. “I enjoy seeing something transform from nothing into a finished product. To see the smile on the client’s face when it’s done is incredibly rewarding. I absolutely love what I’m doing.”

Pourhassan is a builder, developer and architect – and he’s got a lot to do. Highlight Homes, which specializes in intown rebuilds in Atlanta, is a busy company with plenty of projects on the horizon. Although the details are still being ironed out, Highlight Homes is preparing to tackle a 2,300-acre development that will eventually feature roughly 4,000 homes and a city center, a project that will take about 20 years to complete.

In addition, the company has two “pop the top” rebuild projects under construction, one in Dunwoody and one in Brookhaven, Ga. Pourhassan purchased a number of 1950s style ranch houses that are being transformed into modern farmhouse or French country homes. “There’s a lot of people that do teardowns and rebuilds but not a lot of people pop the top and completely revamp it,” Pourhassan says. “That’s our specialty. We keep the same footprint but the new houses are taller with steeper rooflines. Inside, we raise ceiling heights and build a second floor.”Highlightbox

One of Highlight Homes’ newest construction projects is a duplex near Georgia Tech. The homes are modern farmhouse style homes with two-car garages, which is unusual within the city limits of downtown Atlanta. In addition, Highlight Homes has two home rebuild projects in Chamblee, Ga. The company’s niche market is between $900,000 and $2 million – although it has taken on projects of up to $20,000 million.

All Shapes And Sizes

Highlight Homes stands by every house it builds by extending a one-year follow-up maintenance call to their homeowners, as well as a one-year full service warranty and an 8-year structural warranty – at no additional cost. Each Highlight Home contractor is fully licensed, registered and insured and prepared to tackle projects of varying size and scope – from a luxury custom estate in one of Atlanta’s trendiest neighborhoods to a cozy, bungalow-inspired home in the sprawling suburbs.

“We do a lot of French country and modern farmhouse homes,” Pourhassan says. ”We’re toning down our trim level to be a little more simplistic with clean lines, open floor plans and larger bedrooms.” Many of his clients also want his-and-her bathrooms with attached walk-in closets. “His bathroom has a steam shower,” he says. “The women’s has a soaking tub and then a nice tiled shower with body jets, rain heads and hand-held sprayers.”

Other trends that Pourhassan is seeing in his market include shiplap siding, black stainless steel appliances and kitchen islands that differ from the color of the kitchen. After nearly three decades of experience in architectural design, construction and development, Pourhassan and Highlight Homes prides itself on having the know-how to take any project from concept to completion.

Established in 2005, Highlight Homes started out building startup homes and first-time move-ups. In response to a growing need in Atlanta, the company launched its renovation division in 2009 and custom construction division in 2014. Today, Highlight Homes focuses mainly on rebuilds. It is a certified Earth Craft House Builder, Energy Star Partner, and LEED Certified Home Builder.
